Would you "unquilt" or rip-out the stitches on a completed quilt top and requilt it? I know it must sound like a crazy idea but I've done it and would do it again!!
There are some quilts that I've made that I love the quilt but I don't like how I quilted it. I guess because free-motion quilting is my thing, it's what I notice most on my quilts. I had one quilt that I loved the quilt top but I hated how I free-motion quilted it. I naturally folded it up and put it in my quilt cabinet. Every once in a while the color of the quilt would catch my eye and get me thinking about "that quilt" again. Finally I just decided that I was going to rip the stitches out and redo it. Yes, the binding was already on it and no, your not suppose to free-motion quilt a quilt after the bindings been finished. But, I didn't care! What was the worst thing that could happen?? I already had it put away.
So I started taking out stitches and I took out more stitches. It did take awhile to rip them all out but I'm so glad I did. I re-quilted it and LOVED the results. I loved it so much I put it in my second book.
I wonder if I should open up an orphanage for all those unloved quilts out there that have been put away because their owners don't like how the quilting turned out. Send them to me and I will love them and re-quilt them Happy Quilting
